Historic preservation and revitalization were at front of mind when city officials purchased the train depot on Buckeye Street in downtown Kokomo.
Built in 1910, the train depot underwent a publicly funded, major preservation and rehabilitation project starting in 2014.
The project included a pocket park located along the Industrial Heritage Trail. The park includes a cement ping pong table, foosball, cornhole, and chess tables, along with tables and additional seating. Inside the depot, a second-floor community room is available for reservations.
The restored depot is located in the heart of a two-block area that has seen more than $13 million in private redevelopment in recent years. The Historic Depot District now houses restaurants, residential options, retail shops, a salon, Sun King Brewery and more.
