Several architectural styles can be seen in downtown Kokomo, including Italianate, Romanesque Revival, Neoclassical/Craftsman, Mediterranean, Art Deco and Contemporary.

Take a stroll downtown and you’ll see arches, hipped roofs, window hoods, columned porticos, pilasters, pediment openings and more.

There’s even an Old Silk Stocking District Walking Tour and the Downtown Kokomo Historical Architecture Walking Tour available. Those tours explore the architectural features of local buildings. These mobile tours allow you to learn more about local architecture and explore some of the interesting histories of the buildings.

The Silk Stocking District tour features 28 buildings and the downtown tour features 23.

To take the tour, you can pick up a tour booklet from the Visitors Center located inside Inventrek Technology Park at 700 E. Firmin St., or City Hall in downtown Kokomo. Each building on the tour has exterior signage that includes a QR code which links you to information about that structure on your mobile device. Or, download the Kokomo, Indiana app from the Google Play Store or App Store. In the app, you’ll find self-guided tours highlighting Kokomo’s architecture and the Kokomo Sculpture Walk.
