Since its founding in 1855, Kokomo has been a community of innovation and entrepreneurship. More than 160 years later, its rich automotive and manufacturing heritage still continue to drive technological development, advanced manufacturing, and significant public and private investment.

In 2018, the Kokomo economy ranked 4th in the nation in job growth. That same year, it was the third-fastest growing in U.S. since the Great Recession. In 2019, Kokomo/Howard County was designated as an Indiana Healthy Community.

Also in recent years, Kokomo has been recognized as #1 Most Affordable Small City in America, #6 in Nation for Exports in GDP and #3 in Nation in Advanced Manufacturing Specialization. In 2016, the Kokomo MSA lead the nation in new construction jobs gained based on percentage. Industry Week magazine ranked the Kokomo MSA as first in the nation for manufacturing presence, productivity, and strength.
